SOCIAL WORKERS AMENDMENT ACT, 2024

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

Explanatory Note Icon

CLAUSE 1: [Social Workers Act, section 4] is consequential to an amendment made by this Bill to the Act.

1 Section 4 (5) of the Social Workers Act, S.B.C. 2008, c. 31, is amended by adding "or" at the end of paragraph (a) and repealing paragraph (b).

Explanatory Note Icon

CLAUSE 2: [Social Workers Act, section 18] repeals section 18 (2) of the Act, which permits a person to use the title "social worker", or an abbreviation of that title, if that person is a social worker who is, or works for, a prescribed person.

2 Section 18 is repealed and the following substituted:

Title protection

18 No person other than a registrant may use

(a) the title "social worker" or "registered social worker", or

(b) a title prescribed under this Act.

CLAUSE 3: [Social Workers Act, section 50] is consequential to an amendment made by this Bill to the Act.

3 Section 50 (2) (n) is repealed.

CLAUSE 4: [Social Workers Regulation, section 4] is consequential to an amendment made by this Bill to the Act.

4 Section 4 of the Social Workers Regulation, B.C. Reg. 211/2015, is repealed.

Commencement

5 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
