HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:
CLAUSE 1: [Commercial Transport Act, section 6] makes a housekeeping amendment.
1 Section 6 (4) (c) (iii) of the Commercial Transport Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 58, is amended by striking out "sections 212.1, section 218.1" and substituting "section 212.1 or 218.1".
CLAUSE 2: [Commercial Transport Act, section 12] increases the maximum monetary penalty on operators from $500 to $100 000 and adds a penalty of imprisonment for not more than 18 months.
2 Section 12 is amended
(a) in subsection (2) (a) by striking out "not more than $500," and substituting "not more than $100 000 or to imprisonment for not more than 18 months, or to both,",
(b) in subsection (2) (b) by striking out "not more than $500 and," and substituting "not more than $100 000, or to imprisonment for not more than 18 months, or to both, and,", and
(c) in subsection (4) by striking out "not more than $500" and substituting "not more than $100 000 or to imprisonment for not more than 18 months, or to both".
3 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
