This Bill recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a public holiday in British Columbia and establishes it as a statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act.

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in British Columbia

1 The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, is a public holiday.


Related Amendments

Election Act

2 Section 1 (1) of the Election Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 106, is amended in paragraph (b) of the definition of "holiday" by adding "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation," after "Labour Day,".

Employment Standards Act

3 Section 1 (1) of the Employment Standards Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 113, is amended in the definition of "statutory holiday" by adding "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation," after "Labour Day,".

Interpretation Act

4 Section 29 of the Interpretation Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 238, is amended in paragraph (b) of the definition of "holiday" by adding "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation," after "Labour Day,".

Commencement

5 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.
