RECALL AND INITIATIVE AMENDMENT ACT, 2017

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

This Bill amends the Recall and Initiative Act to provide specific rules pertaining to a legislative proposal which seeks to withdraw the Government of British Columbia from an Environmental Assessment Equivalency Agreement.

1 Section 7 (1) of the Recall and Initiative Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 398, is amended

(a) by striking out the period at the end of paragraph (b) and substituting "; or", and

(b) by adding the following paragraph:

(c) for a legislative proposal initiated under section 2 for the purpose of withdrawing a specific project from an Environmental Assessment Equivalency Agreement, the signature sheets must be signed by at least 15% of the total number of registered voters in the Province of British Columbia without regard to electoral district requirements under section 7 (1) (b).

Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Recall and Initiative Act to provide specific rules pertaining to a legislative proposal which seeks to withdraw the Government of British Columbia from an Environmental Assessment Equivalency Agreement.
