MR. SPEAKER: The Honourable the Minister of Education.
HON. D.L. BROTHERS (Minister of Education): Mr. Speaker, in your gallery this afternoon are 18 students from Jericho Hill, from the deaf school, and they are over this afternoon together with Miss Dierwood, Mr. Joy, and Mr. Anderson, their instructors. Ten of these students will be writing exams tomorrow to go to Gallaudet College in the United States and we thought it would give them a rest today by watching the House in action. I hope that all the Members in the Legislature will bid them welcome.
MR. SPEAKER: The Honourable Member for Burnaby Edmonds.
MR. G.H. DOWDING (Burnaby-Edmonds): Mr. Speaker, in the absence of the Honourable Leader of the Opposition for a brief time this afternoon, I would like to ask the House to welcome some supporters of his who happen to live in his area and in the area of Dewdney. I want to say it gave them great pleasure to be here in the gallery particularly after an excellent meal provided by the Member for Dewdney.

MR. L.A. WILLIAMS (West Vancouver–Howe Sound: Mr. Speaker, I would draw the attention of the Members to a group in the gallery from West Bay School in West Vancouver with their teacher, Mrs. Benham and three very supporting parents who have been here today.

HON. R.L. PETERSON (Attorney-General): Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present a message from His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor.
STATUTE LAW AMENDMENT ACT, 1972
MR. SPEAKER: The Lieutenant-Governor transmits herewith a bill intituled Statute Law Amendment Act, 1972, and recommends the same to the legislative assembly. Dated at Government House, March 14, 1972.

On the recommendation of the committee, Bill No. 91, Statute Law Amendment Act, 1972 introduced, read a first time and ordered to be placed on orders of the day for second reading at the next sitting after today.

KRIPPS (Vancouver South): Mr. Speaker, I ask leave of the House to move the motion standing in my name on the order paper: (That Report No. 2 of the select standing committee on standing orders and private bills received by the House on March 10, relating to An Act to Incorporate Vanco Insurance Company, be adopted.)

Mrs. Kripps moves introduction and first reading of Bill No. 52, intituled An Act to Incorporate Vanco Insurance Company.
Motion approved. Bill No. 52 read a first time and ordered to be referred to the select standing committee on standing orders and private bills.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Mr. Speaker, a motion was made in committee that the chairman leave the Chair. I ruled the motion out of order on the grounds that it was an abuse of the rules and privileges of the House pursuant to standing Order 44. This ruling has been challenged.
MR. SPEAKER: The ruling of the Chair has been challenged. The question is shall the ruling of the Chair be sustained?
