The Hon. L.R. Peterson presented to Mr. Speaker a Message from His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor.

On the motion of the Hon. L.R. Peterson, Bill (No. 29) intituled Age of Majority Act was introduced, read a first time, and Ordered to be placed on theOrders of the Day for second reading at the next sitting after today.

(Estimates of the Department of Labour)

The Committee rose, reported progress, and asked leave to sit again.

HON. W.A.C. BENNETT: I move that the House, at its rising, do stand adjourned until 8 o'clock this evening, Mr. Speaker.

MR. SPEAKER: You have heard the motion. One moment, please. The honourable the Leader of the Opposition.

MR. D. BARRETT: On the motion, Mr. Speaker, I wish to oppose the motion under section 45 (k) of the Standing Orders.

As a matter of privilege, I wish to bring to the attention of the House that I don't think that all the members of the House can serve the Legislature with their various responsibilities, by continuous night sittings. I would like to further point out, Mr. Speaker, that many members are attending committees and carrying on with other various duties during the day.

We did have an unnecessary night session on Monday, which was very, very unusual, and I would ask the Minister to reconsider the motion, because of the duties that we have to the House.

MR. SPEAKER: I draw the honourable member's attention, with respect, to the precedence motion that was drawn by the House, to my recollection, on January 26th, last, when the House decided that there would be two distinct sittings on each day, one from 2 to 6 p.m. and one from 8 p.m. until adjournment, unless otherwise ordered.

In other words, the motion of the honourable House leader and Premier is perfectly in order, and the point is not well taken.
