Election of Chair and Deputy Chair

D. Hol (Clerk to the Committee): Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Darryl Hol. I’m the Clerk to the special committee for today.

I’m joined by my colleagues Lisa Hill, Danielle Migeon, and Jonathon Hamilton from our research office. They’re here to support the committee walking through deliberations today.

As this is the first meeting of the committee in the fifth session of the 42nd parliament, it’s my responsibility as Clerk to the committee to oversee the election of a Chair.

Do we have any nominations for Chair of the committee?

J. Routledge: I’d like to nominate Mable Elmore.

D. Hol (Clerk to the Committee): Thank you.

Mable, do you accept the nomination?

M. Elmore: I accept.

D. Hol (Clerk to the Committee): Are there any further nominations? Any further nominations? I will ask a third and final time. Any further nominations?

The question, then, is that Mable Elmore take the role of Chair of the committee.

Motion approved.

[M. Elmore in the chair.]

D. Hol (Clerk to the Committee): Congratulations, Chair. Over to you.

M. Elmore (Chair): All right. Terrific. Thank you very much.

Appreciation to my nominator. I’m very pleased to chair the deliberations for the Special Committee to Review Passenger-Directed Vehicles.

We’re all joining you here from the traditional territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking people, the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.

I would now like to elect a Deputy Chair.

A call for nominations.

J. Sturdy: I nominate Shirley Bond.

M. Elmore (Chair): Shirley, do you accept the nomination?

S. Bond: Yes.

M. Elmore (Chair): Any other nominations? A second time, a third time? Any other nominations? Once more, are there any other nominations for Deputy Chair?

The question is that Shirley Bond take the role of Deputy Chair.

Motion approved.

M. Elmore (Chair): Congratulations, Deputy Chair.

S. Bond (Deputy Chair): Thank you very much.

Deliberations

M. Elmore (Chair): Now it is the practice of the Legislative Assembly of B.C. that deliberations on draft reports of its committee are held in camera. The reason that committees may adopt this practice is that a committee’s recommendation must remain confidential until the report is made public.

We are undertaking deliberations for the Special Committee to Review Passenger-Directed Vehicles.

Could I have a motion to go in camera, please?

Motion approved.

The committee continued in camera from 5:43 p.m. to 8:22 p.m.

[M. Elmore in the chair.]

M. Elmore (Chair): We’re on air.

Thank you, everyone. We’ve had very productive deliberations on the ongoing efforts for the Special Committee to Review Passenger Directed Vehicles.

I’ll now ask for a motion to adjourn.

Motion approved.

The committee adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
