Election of Chair and Deputy Chair

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): As this is the first meeting of the Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts for the second session of the 42nd parliament, the first order of business is the election of the Chair.

Are there any nominations?

J. Tegart: I’ll move that Mike Bernier be the Chair.

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): Thank you.

Mike, you’ve been nominated as Chair. Do you accept the nomination?

M. Bernier: Yes, I do. Thank you.

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): Any further nominations? Any further nominations?

Seeing none, all those in favour?

Motion approved.

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): Congratulations, Chair.

M. Bernier (Chair): Thank you, Jennifer. I’m looking forward to working with this good team again, going forward here, for the rest of this session, hopefully.

With that, we’ll move along, then. Just the formalities. We need the election of the Deputy Chair. I’m looking for nominations for that.

A. Mercier: I move Rick Glumac as Deputy Chair.

M. Bernier (Chair): Thank you.

Rick, do you accept that?

R. Glumac: Yes.

M. Bernier (Chair): Okay. Are there any other nominations? A second time? For a third time, any nominations?

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure

M. Bernier (Chair): The next order of business…. I know it’s a very quick meeting today, but as Jennifer put forward, we do have a lot of reports, a lot of work to do. So it’s important that we have the subcommittee.

I’m looking to appoint the subcommittee on agenda and procedure, moving forward.

I would like to nominate Jackie Tegart to be on that committee with, hopefully, myself and Rick.

Rick, did you have anybody to appoint as well?

R. Glumac (Deputy Chair): Yeah. I would like to ap­point Andrew Mercier.

M. Bernier (Chair): Okay. I assume Andrew and Jackie both agree to that.

Jennifer, my apologies. We need a formal motion for that, do we not?

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): Yeah. I can screen share, if one of the members would like to move the motion.

M. Bernier (Chair): I see Bruce’s hand there.

B. Banman: I move that a subcommittee on agenda and procedure comprised of the Chair, Mike Bernier, MLA; the Deputy Chair, Rick Glumac, MLA; Andrew Mercier, MLA; and Jackie Tegart, MLA, be appointed.

Motion approved.

M. Bernier (Chair): Thank you very much. I know we have a lot of work to do.

Again, today was just a very quick meeting to get everybody back up to speed and to make sure we have the formalities of the committee.

Jennifer, is there anything else we needed to cover off today? I know we have quite a few scheduled meetings.

I want to thank everybody for being so flexible and for working with your staff and with Jennifer in the office to have these meetings. We have a lot of reports to go through and a lot of work to do, and I’m looking forward to that.

Jennifer, anything else to add?

J. Arril (Clerk of Committees): No, nothing to add. The next committee meeting is next Monday morning.

M. Bernier (Chair): Deputy Chair, Rick, did you have anything you wanted to add?

R. Glumac (Deputy Chair): Nothing, really. I wanted to echo your sentiments. I look forward to working with everyone again in this new session.
