Election of Chair and Deputy Chair
S. Sourial (Clerk Assistant, Committees and Interparliamentary Relations): Good morning, committee members. Welcome to the first meeting of the first session of the 42nd parliament of the Special Committee to Review the Personal Information Protection Act.
Our first order of business is to elect a Chair. Do I have any nominations?
G. Begg: I nominate Mable Elmore.
S. Sourial (Clerk Assistant): Thank you.
Mable, do you accept the nomination?
M. Elmore: Yes, Susan.
Thanks to my nominator. I accept.
S. Sourial (Clerk Assistant): Any further nominations? Any further nominations? One more time, any further nominations?
Seeing none, all those in favour, raise your hands.
Motion approved.
[M. Elmore in the chair.]
S. Sourial (Clerk Assistant): Congratulations, Madam Chair.
M. Elmore (Chair): Thank you very much, Susan.
Thank you, everybody. I’m looking forward to 2021 and the work for us to undertake on our committee.
The next order of business is to elect a Deputy Chair. I’d like to open a call for nominations. Do we have any nominations for Deputy Chair?
R. Singh: I would like to nominate Dan Ashton.
M. Elmore (Chair): Thank you.
Dan, do you accept that nomination?
D. Ashton: Yes, I do. Thank you.
Thank you, Rachna.
M. Elmore (Chair): Great. Perfect.
Any further nominations? Any further nominations? Last call for nominations for Deputy Chair.
All right. I’ll put it to a vote.
Motion approved.
M. Elmore (Chair): Congratulations, Dan. Great to have you aboard as the Deputy Chair.
D. Ashton (Deputy Chair): Thank you, Madam Chair.
To each and every one of you, thank you. I look forward to working with everybody. As we all know, this is a very important committee during these times. It’s the way things are going. So let’s all work hard together and make sure we represent everybody on the issues that we’re going to face now and in the future.
Again, thank you very much.
M. Elmore (Chair): Terrific. Thanks, Dan.
Susan, the next item on our agenda is to talk about scheduling an informal meeting.
Committee Workplan
S. Sourial (Clerk Assistant): Yes. Not so much amongst ourselves. I will reach out to the Chair and Deputy Chair and then coordinate with committee members for an informal orientation session so that we can look at what the committee’s work was in the 41st parliament and how the committee would like to move forward in this new parliament.
M. Elmore (Chair): Terrific. Thank you very much, Susan. That sounds excellent.
Now, do we have any other items? Any members have anything you’d like to share or bring forward before we wrap up our meeting?
All right. Okay. Thank you very much, everybody. I look forward to working with all of you, in the future, on our committee and to doing some great work together. Thank you very much.
Can I have a motion to adjourn?
Motion moved by Dan. Thank you.
Motion approved.
The committee adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
