Appointment of
Acting Representative
for Children and Youth

N. Simons (Chair): Good morning, Members. Thank you very much for joining us in person or by phone. We have a very small agenda for today. And thank you to the Clerk’s office.

I believe that we need to go in camera.

R. Leonard: Motion to go in camera.

N. Simons (Chair): We have a motion to go in camera.

Motion approved.

The committee continued in camera from 9:10 a.m. to 9:18 a.m.

[N. Simons in the chair.]

R. Leonard: I move:

[That pursuant to section 5 of the Representative for Children and Youth Act, the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth appoint Dr. Jennifer Charlesworth as Acting Representative for Children and Youth to exercise the powers and perform the functions and duties of the Representative, commencing on August 31, 2018, and continuing until an appointment of a Representative is made pursuant to section 2 of the Act.]

N. Simons (Chair): Members, you’ve heard the motion. Is it seconded?

Seconded by Joan. Thank you very much.

Motion approved.

[9:20 a.m.]

N. Simons (Chair): I’m very pleased that we have successfully found someone for this important role, even on the interim basis, and I look forward to the Legislature resuming so that we can make this an ongoing appointment.

K. Ryan-Lloyd (Deputy Clerk and Clerk of Committees): I will, on behalf of the committee, contact the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth and Dr. Charlesworth to provide them with an update of your decision today. I’m sure they’ll be very happy with that news.

We’ve also prepared a draft media release, which I’m hoping to receive any guidance and input from members, particularly the Chair and the Deputy Chair, which we’ll distribute later this afternoon.

N. Simons (Chair): Thank you, Kate.

With that, I believe…. Any other business to discuss at this point? No.

Would you like to move adjournment?

R. Leonard: So moved.

N. Simons (Chair): This committee is now adjourned.
