The committee met at 4:04 p.m.
Election of Chair
C. James (Clerk Assistant and Clerk of Committees): The committee being advised of the resignation of Katherine Whittred as Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth and being appointed as Deputy Speaker for the Legislative Assembly and there not being a Chair and being the Clerk to the committee, I call for nominations for the Chair.
L. Krog (Deputy Chair): I move that we nominate the member for Nanaimo-Parksville, Ron Cantelon.
C. James (Clerk of Committees): Any further nominations? Any further nominations? Seeing no further nominations, I presume you accept the nomination.
R. Cantelon: I accept the nomination.
C. James (Clerk of Committees): That being the case, I'll put the question.
[1605]
Motion approved.
[R. Cantelon in the chair.]
R. Cantelon (Chair): I have a brief 20-minute speech of acceptance.
No. That's going to be all the business today. Monday, however, we will have an important meeting. We'll be reviewing the service plan. I expect to get a draft in the next day or two, and I'll circulate the draft to all the members so they can come prepared.
It'll be a very important meeting. The representative, of course, can't proceed until we approve the plan or make comments and forward it accordingly to the Finance Committee for her solicitation there. That's basically it.
The other aspect of the work that she's going to bring to us will be a review of the Hughes report. If you recall, we were going to review that chapter and verse. At this point, with the workload she's had, she's advised me that it'll be sort of in summary and in progress, so we won't be able to deal with that, I don't expect, on Monday. We'll have a subsequent meeting on that.
Interjection.
R. Cantelon (Chair): A potential meeting in December, yes. We might have a meeting in December, depending on how far she goes with the Hughes.
That'll be it. The meeting stands adjourned.
The committee adjourned at 4:06 p.m.
